University of Baguio Triumphs at the IECEP CAR Student Summit 2024

The University of Baguio emerged victorious in several categories, showcasing the talent and dedication of its students. In the Academic competitions, with the guidance of their coach Engr. Leah A. Talusig, the university secured a 2nd runner-up finish in the Interscholastic Quiz Show, with a team consisting of Aira Aguban, Aluin Ron Vallesteros, Ezer Lantaen, JohnRev Gat-eb, Marx Facsoy, and Raquel Catanes. The university also claimed 1st runner-up in the Elite Electronics Competition, with team members Lumawig Amdengan, Joezer Rei Wajchina, and Daniel Rivera demonstrating their technical expertise.

The University of Baguio School of Engineering and Architecture IECEP Student Chapter made a strong impression at the IECEP CAR Student Summit 2024.

The event took place on October 12 at the University of Baguio’s Centennial Hall and ECE Laboratory, where the university proudly served as the host for this year’s summit. Students from IECEP CAR-accredited institutions, including the University of the Cordilleras and Saint Louis University, gathered for a day of intense academic and social competitions.

The summit was divided into two segments: academic and social competitions. The academic competitions featured events like the ECE Math Olympiad, which tested students’ mathematical abilities; the Interscholastic Quiz Show, where competitors demonstrated their electronics engineering knowledge; and the Elite Electronics Competition, a challenge that pushed students to solve complex problems, design circuits, and troubleshoot effectively. On the other hand, the social competitions featured a variety of exciting events, including Euphony, an acoustic duet singing contest; Step Up, a folk-modern fusion group dance battle; and Techtok Creators, a TikTok vlogging challenge that showcased students’ creativity and content creation skills.

The social competitions saw even greater success for the University of Baguio. In the euphony duet singing contest, Carlito Bestre and Ruthney Love Guibingan took the championship title, captivating the audience with their vocal prowess.

The university’s dance crew also claimed the top spot in the Step Up group dance competition, with members Rachel Martinez, Rydnar Dee Alzona, Jeian Tanya Yarcia, Johanna Jheane Jacinto, and Trixie Viloria delivering a spectacular fusion of traditional and modern dance styles. Additionally, in the Techtok vlogging competition, Justin Encarnacion secured 1st place, while Gabriel Isabelo earned 2nd place, both representing the University of Baguio with their innovative content.

With the theme “Inspiring Excellence: Pioneering Innovations for a Sustainable Future,” the winners of the regional summit will advance to the IECEP National Summit, which will be held as a hybrid event from November 11-15, 2024, featuring virtual sessions via Zoom from November 11-13, followed by in-person activities at UP Bahay ng Alumni, UP Diliman, Quezon City, on November 14-15, bringing together top IECEP students from across the country to compete at the highest level.
